What does it feel like to be a Vets4Pets partner?

Becoming a Joint Venture Partner with us not only allows you the freedom and independence to run your own practice but it also means you benefit from being part of a large family of veterinary and business professionals.

A healthy work life balance is important to everyone.
There's no getting away from it, starting your own business is hard work, but the Vets4Pets model means we take away many of the more difficult aspects of being a business owner which allows you, as a Vets4Pets Partner to go home at the end of each day knowing that your admin, finance and marketing is being looked after...leaving you to enjoy your free time  with your family and friends and of course your pets!

For the convenience of your clients, most of our practices are open 7 days a week.  However, we aim for your normal working week as a full time partner to be 5 days out of 7.  In addition, in order to maintain a good work-life balance, we recommend that our Partners utilise the services of a local out of hours provider wherever possible.

We believe that in order to provide the best service to clients and patients, our clinical teams need to be refreshed, well rested and have the balance right between work and family life. That is why, wherever possible we will ensure that an out of hours provision is in place for you near your practice. If this is not possible we will work with you to find acceptable solutions to ensure a reasonable on-call rota thereby enabling you to have time for your friends and family.

Salary from day one

We all have bills to pay and finding the money when starting your own business can be a scary thing. That’s why all our partners receive a salary from day one.

Salary levels for our Joint Venture Partner veterinary surgeons are typically £40,000 although we are always happy to discuss individual needs. Nurse Partners are also able to receive a salary from day one and this is usually between £19,000 and £24,000 depending on the agreed role.

Salaries for the rest of your team are agreed with you and people related activities are supported by The People Team.

As the Joint Venture Partner, you own the A Shares of your business which entitle you to all of the profits from the business and from any future sale of the A Shares.  Dividends are payable twice a year.

JVP Benefit Scheme

The Vet Group has a Pension Scheme available through Legal and General. You can choose how much to pay each pay period with no minimum amount after completing 3 months ‘Service. After a year Employer contributions will then start

Life Cover

All employees are enrolled on group life cover at Pets at Home which gives benefit of 4 x salary on death.  In addition JVPs also receive life cover for the value of the bank loan, for as long as they have one, which ensures this is paid off in the event of their death.

Income Protection

All our JVPs benefit from Income Protection of 75% of qualifying earnings until the age of 60.  The waiting period is 13 weeks and the benefit increases at 3% per annum in payment.  Qualifying earnings include salary, bonus and dividends with bonus and dividends averaged over the preceding 3 years.

Loan Protection

Provides a lump sum to clear outstanding loans used to purchase a practice.

All colleagues receive 20% discount at Pets at Home, Rideaway and Vets4Pets or Companion Care surgeries. In addition to this colleagues can benefit from a variety of Corporate discounts and benefits schemes.

All of our Partners are entitled to 28 days holiday per annum including public holidays and this rises after 2 full years of service to 33 days including public holidays. Any locum Vet or Nurse costs to cover your holiday will already be factored into your business plan.

Initially, it is likely that you will want to spend as much time as possible building your new business, as you will want to establish disciplines and protocols - setting the foundations for your practice to build a fantastic reputation for patient care and client service. However, it is important that you take time away from the business as there is a real benefit for the practice to have you recharge your batteries and be a motivated and motivating Partner.

Continuous professional development (CPD) is vitally important to all members of the practice team and we aim to support all our colleagues by providing the most up-to-date and relevant CPD courses at discounted and affordable prices.  The Academy was established in 2013 to ensure that all of our colleagues have access to quality learning and development opportunities relevant to their roles.

The content of our CPD courses has been designed with our colleagues in mind to meet their development needs as well as the needs of your business.  We have spent time with each of our carefully selected tutors to ensure they understand our business fully and the content is relevant and tailored for your business.

We try to ensure each CPD course has coverage across the UK, providing the opportunity for all our colleagues to attend and to benefit from the sessions.

There is no doubt in my mind that I made the right choice and have joined a family of practices all wanting to practice the best medicine. The support team share the same passion as me and that was really important.
