How do I open my own practice with Vets4Pets?

Making the decision to become a Joint Venture Partner is a big and important one, so we ensure that from day one you feel happy and comfortable with every aspect of partnership and what the future will bring.  We have developed a flexible journey that we take our new partners through which is designed to work with your time scales, needs and requirements and allows you to take as much time as you need to feel that you have made an informed decision. All veterinary professionals including Vet Nurses and Practice Managers are welcome to join the Vets4Pets family in partnership with at least one Veterinary Surgeon.

Initial Vets4Pets meeting with Malcolm
The best way to discover all your options is to begin with an informal chat or meeting with one of our Partner Relationship Managers. You can tell them exactly what you are looking for from your career and how it fits in with your personal life too. This initial meeting gives you the opportunity to learn more about the joint venture process, your role as a partner and understand the business support we provide.  It also provides us with the chance to learn more about you and discuss the options available.  We pride ourselves on our openness and transparency with all our partners and we are always happy to answer any questions you may have

Visiting one of our existing practices and getting a chance to speak to another Partner is a great opportunity for you to see for yourself how our practices look, where they are situated and what our Partners really think about working with us. On your practice visit you will see the quality and finish that we consistently provide to all of our Partner’s practices and the clearly defined and recognisable branding, one of the many benefits of being a Vets4Pets Partner.
Guernsey Vets4Pets support office
The Joint Venture Discovery Days takes place in our support office based in the Swindon. You are invited to spend the day with us here during which you will be able to meet many of the key people who would be supporting you. We’ll review the opportunities in locations of interest to you but there’s no commitment to proceed at this stage. We appreciate you are considering an important stage in your life so if you would like to bring someone else with you to the Discovery Day, they would be more than welcome.  Overall it’s a great opportunity to really understand the support you would get in your new business.

Once you’ve decided that you would like to have your own surgery and become a partner, we then need to agree the specific details of exactly where you want to be and whether that is inside a Pets at Home store, or in a standalone location. For many people the location of their practice is a key element. Whether it be for commuting reasons or to be close to friends and family, location for you is important. It's also important to us and we spend considerable resource using sophisticated software to ensure your location is the best in the area.

During this session your Partner Relationship Manager takes you through your business plan for setting up a Joint Venture Partnership.  This plan will cover in detail items such as cash flow, turnover, breakeven points, sales, margins, expenditures, salaries, loan repayments and of course projected profits. The session also provides you with a deep understanding of the finances, the loan requirements and your salary structure.

Signing day

You’re nearly there… signing day is a great chance to meet up again with the people who will be working to support your new business. As well as signing the contracts you’ll also spend time with the marketing, human resources and operations teams to agree the plans for your launch marketing, team recruitment and equipment purchases.

Open day
The big day has arrived! The opening day is a great occasion, sometimes we even get in a local celebrity  to carry out a ribbon cutting ceremony with you. There’s a photographer and a number of people from the support office there to celebrate the moment with you and your team. Your marketing team will have promoted your open day for you so you'll have lots of people to show round your new practice and register. Within your first week clients begin to arrive for appointments that are pre-booked ahead of the opening day.

Time flies and before you know it you’ll be at the end of the first year as a Joint Venture Partner. By then you’ll have a rapidly growing client base and a busy new business. Not to mention a lot of happy pets! You’ll be able to look back at the year that has gone by and be very proud of what you and your team have achieved.
Gavin Henderson, Partner at Southend on Sea Vets4Pets with his dog wearing a red Vets4Pets bandana.

There is no doubt in my mind that I made the right choice and have joined a family of practices all wanting to practice the best medicine. The support team share the same passion as me and that was really important.
